DELMARVA - Residents can expect a mix of sun, scattered showers, and breezy weather from early Saturday through Memorial Day, as a series of upper-level disturbances gradually give way to a fair weather pattern.
On Saturday, a closed upper-level low over eastern Canada will continue to influence the Mid-Atlantic. The strongest of several shortwaves tied to this system will pass through the area, bringing another round of scattered afternoon showers. While Saturday will start off partly to mostly sunny, the atmosphere will turn unsettled by midday. Thunderstorms are not expected, and rainfall amounts will remain minimal, keeping the day from becoming a total washout. Highs will reach the 60s, with brisk west winds increasing to around 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph.
By Saturday night, the shortwave exits the region, allowing skies to gradually clear. Winds will subside to 5 to 10 mph, and temperatures will drop into the 40s once again, setting the stage for a crisp and quiet night.
Sunday will usher in a transition toward more stable conditions. An upper ridge will build eastward from the Ohio Valley while a surface high pressure system settles over the region. This setup will bring mostly sunny skies for much of the day, though a weak disturbance moving across Maryland late Sunday could trigger a few isolated showers across Delmarva Sunday night. However, the chance remains slight. High temperatures will improve slightly into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, with calm to light winds, making for a pleasant day overall.
Memorial Day is shaping up to be the best of the three-day period. High pressure will remain in control, keeping skies partly to mostly sunny and dry for any outdoor commemorations or gatherings. Temperatures will once again be just a bit below normal, ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s, while nighttime lows will hover in the 50s. Winds will stay light, making it feel mild and comfortable throughout the day.
The fair weather won’t last long, as the next round of unsettled conditions returns midweek, bringing increased humidity and scattered showers by Tuesday.
