MILTON, Del. - A crash at a busy intersection in Milton involved a paramedic unit Friday.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ellendale Highway (Route 16) and Mulberry Street. A paramedic SUV was struck, as pictured in the viewer photo above. The Milton Fire Department and Milton Police responded to the scene.

Witnesses told CoastTV that traffic was briefly backed up in both directions along Route 16 and Mulberry Street.

The Delaware Department of Transportation previously announced plans to install a traffic light at the site, citing increased traffic volumes and crash risks. However, that project has been delayed for at least nine months. Local people have expressed frustration over the stalled improvements.

Another accident in Milton that happened just five minutes prior to the above took place on Isaacs Road. The Milton departments also responded to this crash.
