week in review

DELMARVA - From severe weather to parking meters, it was a busy week for communities across the region.

Monday: Milton Considers Parking Meters:

Milton's Parking Working Group is currently exploring the possibility of adding parking meters in the town. Some locals have raised concerns that the proposed rate of two dollars an hour could discourage tourism. However, others argue that paid parking might help make spots available more frequently as meters run out.

Tuesday: Severe Storm Hits Delmarva:

On Tuesday, a major storm struck the coast, bringing gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding, and significant storm damage. This weather event impacted every part of Delmarva, causing widespread disruption and concern among residents and authorities.

Wednesday: Aftermath of the Storm:

Following the storm's passage on Wednesday, the damage it left behind became apparent. Streets remained flooded, and in some areas, power outages persisted. Daylight revealed that strong waves had caused considerable erosion of the beaches, adding to the challenges faced by the community.

Thursday: Deauville Beach Parking:

Rehoboth Beach addressed a parking issue on Thursday, contemplating the introduction of parking meters at Deauville Beach. This change would mean the elimination of parking permits, a move that has seen some resistance from locals.

Friday: Hotel Decision Delayed:

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission decided on Friday to postpone the discussion regarding the site application for One Rehoboth Avenue to February. A developer is proposing to build a hotel above the boardwalk where Dolle's previously stood. The commission is awaiting additional documentation from FEMA before proceeding.
